The Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) is the primary source of nationally representative data on U.S. household finances, conducted every three years by the Board of Governors and fielded by NORC at the University of Chicago. Key variants/forms of collected financial data include assets (such as savings accounts, retirement plans, real estate, and business holdings), liabilities (including mortgages, credit-card balances, auto loans, and student debt), and behavioral metrics on day-to-day money management, emergency savings cushions, and future expense planning.
